Top tips from Hiscox for half term ski trips

Heading off to the slopes for the half term holiday? From waterproofing your equipment to simply reading up on safety, there are steps you can take to help protect yourself, according to Hiscox.
The specialist insurer is offering some top tips for winter holidaymakers.
First, get the right gear. The weather can change in a moment and if you are not appropriately dressed you could be left out in the cold.
Always protect your head. Helmets can play an important role in preventing serious injury if you hit your head on the snow, a fixed object or even another person.
Don’t be tempted to skip professional instruction, learning the basics such as how to control your speed or how to stop are essential and bad habits learnt early on are difficult to change.
Check that your travel policy covers all of your planned activities. Riskier winter sports such as ski or snowboard racing, jumping, acrobatics or aerials are sometimes excluded and separate specialist cover may be required.
Winter sports cover is limited to a certain number of days, usually 21 days per year. If you’re planning a longer holiday, tell your insurer.
Finally, if you are planning to ski off piste, check your insurance policy terms and conditions.
