Invest in Japan with Gartmore fund

Monday, 01 February 2010 12:00

A new fund has been launched by Gartmore which provides investors with the chance to gain exposure to Japan.

The Gartmore Japan Absolute Return Fund invests in both Japanese equities and equity-related derivative contracts.

This means the fund managers can take both long and short positions, which in very basic terms means they bet on the markets going up or down.

This allows them to try and achieve their goal of absolute returns regardless of market conditions.

According to Sheridan Adams of investment adviser, The Share Centre, the fund’s portfolio is a combination of longer-term strategic and more opportunistic tactical positions.

He added: “This type of alternative strategy is not a new direction for Gartmore, which has been managing these types of portfolios for more than ten years as hedge funds, and is now in the fortunate position to bring them to the retail market.”
