Alliance & Leicester secures online banking

Thursday, 05 November 2009 12:00

Alliance & Leicester is providing its online banking customers with free software to guard against internet fraudsters.

The Rapport software has been created to combat phishing attacks, where a fake website is created to look like a real one to trick users into giving it their personal details.

The new software, which works alongside anti-virus programmes and firewalls, silently protects information – including their customer ID and PIN – entered by users into their internet browser.

Tim Brunt, head of internet banking at the bank, said: “I would urge all Alliance & Leicester customers who use internet banking to download this software next time they are online.

“It will provide important additional protection when they bank online by ring-fencing their valuable information, and it is quick and easy to download.”
