Equity ISA

Equity ISAs - or stocks and shares ISAs - are a way of investing up to £7,200 a year in the markets without being charged income tax or capital gains tax on profits.

If you invest in a stocks and shares ISA you can also hold a separate cash ISA at the same time - although the total that can be invested in one year is £7,200.

While you can only put £7,200 a year in an ISA, the entire balance of the ISA (i.e. the accumulated savings of several years) can be transferred into another ISA if needed - allowing you to move your ISA investments to get the best returns.

Investors in equity ISAs can gain access to shares in more than 40 stock exchanges across the globe, money market funds, insurance products, shares OEICs, investment trusts, unit trusts, corporate bonds and gilts, and even real estate investment trusts (Reits).
