Phishing

Phishing is a method of online fraud. Criminals send users an email, pretending to be from their bank or building society, asking them to re-enter their security details.

But rather than being directed to their bank's website, the fraudsters put a link in the email to a fake website designed to look like the official bank website. Here the fraudsters record the security details of the customer to use themselves.

Banks and building societies advise customers to never respond to unsolicited emails, and if they do receive them to call the bank itself and report the email.

Fraudsters can also employ more traditional communication channels, such as phone calls and official-looking letters, when 'phishing'.
