Abbey is offering two new bonds paying up to 6.60 per cent gross (6.71 per cent AER).

The new eBond is open until the end of February to new and existing customers with investments between £10,000 and £100,000.

Investors can only open the bond over the phone or online. A new branch bond paying 6.60 per cent gross (6.71 per cent AER) on investments over £100,000 has also been launched.

The minimum investment is £1 – with interest rates at 6.1 per cent gross (6.19 per cent AER) – and investments between £50,000 and £100,000 payout 6.3 per cent gross (6.4 per cent AER).

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "Times continue to be exciting for savers with some highly competitive rates available in the market.

"Abbey remains firmly committed to offering savers great rates and we expect these new bonds to appeal to savers, whether they like to manage their money online or through the branch."
