Gap year insurance: What countries are covered?

Friday, 27 Jun 2008 17:09
A reader from Stevenage is heading out across the world on a gap year, but is unsure what insurance policy to buy.

Ian Durrell, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from the Only Group, which includes onlyinsurance.com, tackles the issue.

Bryan from Stevenage asks:

I'm going to take a year out.

Are there any insurance policies that can cover me for a gap year?

Will I have to tell the insurance company about where I am going to? (As I am not too sure yet).

Will visiting some countries be more expensive for travel insurance than others?

Ian replies:

Contact a travel insurance provider.

The price will vary depending on the regions you are intending on visiting and what work or activities you expect to take part in.

Also, some counties/regions and activities will not be covered so it is worth contacting a travel insurance broker and discussing.
